Green card, social security card among items stolen
Investigators say they are making progress as they continue intense investigations into the million dollar robbery which was committed two Sundays ago by four armed bandits on a number of patrons at a popular gaming shop and bar in New Amsterdam.
The police are working on a number of leads. Persons have been arrested and are in custody, while a number of others has been arrested and subsequently placed on bail.
According to reports, businessman Campton Figueira, called ‘Buckman’, 58, operates a bar and gamble shop at Lot 18-4 Kent Street, New Amsterdam. Around 01:00 hrs on Saturday last, four bandits all armed with handguns, entered the business place and held the patrons at gunpoint before robbing them of cash and jewelry and other valuables. Some were relieved of US Green card and Social Security card.
Figueira was robbed of three gold bangles valued at $700,000; seven gold rings valued at $600,000 and two gold chains valued at $400,000. He was also relieved of $60,000 in cash.
Compton Welcome, 49, a self employed man of 219 Mayor and Town Council Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam, was robbed of US$5,000 and $30,000 in local currency and one Black Berry cell phone valued at $40,000.
Wayne Joseph, 29, self employed of Tucber Park, was robbed of $42,000, a gold chain valued at $140,000 and one Black Berry cell phone valued at $40,000.
Another man robbed was Alston Grant, 49, a minibus driver of Smythfield, New Amsterdam, of a wallet containing one US green card, one US social security card, one ID card, $60,000 in cash and one BlackBerry cell phone.
Robbed also was 57-year-old Peter Beharry, self employed of 825 St. Ann Street, New Amsterdam Berbice, who was robbed of $50,000.
Driver Yougananad Brymohan, 33, of St. Magdalene Street, New Amsterdam, was robbed of a Galaxy cell phone and $20,000.
According to information, the patrons were at Figueira’s premises gambling when they were suddenly accosted by the four bandits. The patrons were told to lie on the floor and relieved of their valuables. Two of the bandits kept watch over their victims as the other two ventured upstairs and ransacked the premises.
The men then discharged a round in the air before making good their escape in a car. The police were subsequently contacted and responded, but the men were already gone.
Investigations are continuing and investigators are confident that they will nab the perpetrators.
Rewards are also being offered for information on the robbery.
