Living alone when you are battling a heart condition can be dangerous and sometimes deadly; at least this could be the case for a 58-year-old mini bus driver whose lifeless body was found in his home on Saturday.
The decomposed body of Ronald Persaud, a father of two, was found around 16:00 hrs on his bed at his Lot 304 Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) home.
Persaud’s death has been linked to a heart condition he had been suffering from for the past few years. He was also a hypertensive patient.
No foul play is suspected in his death, according to investigators.
Persaud was living alone at the time of his death. His wife and children are residing in another country but came in after they were informed of his demise.
According to information received, a bad scent was emanating from the bus driver’s yard since Friday last.
On Saturday, a resident peeked into Persaud’s yard and saw that blood was dripping from the upper flat of his property into the patio below.
The police were immediately summoned and the discovery was made.
“When we went up, he was bleeding from his mouth. There were no marks of violence on his body,” a neighbour said.
He continued, “He does drive bus, and one of his bus door wasn’t closed properly so I think he was experiencing some pain and he was hurrying to get upstairs to his bed and as soon as he reach, he collapsed.”
A PM examination on the body will be done on Wednesday.
Doctors around the world have advised patients who may suffer a heart attack, when living alone, to cough repeatedly and very vigorously.
A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged.
A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.
Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating.
The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital.
Symptoms of a heart attack may be immediate and intense. More often, though, symptoms start slowly and persist for hours, days or weeks before the actual heart attack.
