– court hears
An 18-year old from South Amelia’s Ward, Linden who apparently has an overwhelming appetite for ice cream was brought to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court last Friday, charged with stealing $76,000 worth of the item.
It is alleged that on Saturday September 27, at midnight, Preston Skeete entered the home of his neighbour, John Rogers and stole 10 ½ pints; eight 9.5 liters, three 2 pints of ‘Flavour Rite’ and two boxes of ‘fudgicle’ ice cream.
Rogers said that on the night in question, he secured his house and went out and upon his return home he noticed three glass louvres missing from his window. He told the police in a statement that his bedroom had been ransacked but nothing was missing. He then went to where he kept the ice cream in a large freezer and noticed the broken lock and the items missing.
6A report was made and Skeete was subsequently arrested.
Police Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick told Magistrate Judy Latchman that Skeete was arrested due to probable cause. He said that investigators at the scene of the crime discovered a trail of ‘footprints’ impressions in the sand leading from the freezer to the defendant’s home.
Prosecutor Bostwick had objected to bail due to the fact that the defendant might interfere with the Prosecutor’s witnesses since they reside in close proximity with each other.
Preston Skeete attends the Linden Technical Institute. He has no prior conviction. He was granted his pre-trial liberty to the tune of $80,000. The case was adjourned until October 29 and transferred to the Linden Magistrate’s Court.
