The police in Berbice are looking for two men who could assist them in their investigations into the murder of a 20 year old man that occurred early yesterday morning.
The dead man has been identified as Rajeshwar Ramdhani, called ‘Suraj’ 20, of Tain Settlement, Corentyne, Berbice.
He was fatally stabbed to his chest around 00:30 hrs on Sunday by a man with whom he had an argument earlier.
The incident took place at Miss Phoebe, Port Mourant.
Information revealed that Ramdhani and his brother Daniel left home on Saturday evening to go to a wake house in the village. Sometime during the night they left and went to another house where wedding celebrations were taking place. It was there that an altercation broke out.
According to the man’s distraught brother Daniel, as he and his brother were making their way home along Well Tank Dam, Miss Phoebe, Port Mourant, they were attacked by the man and some others with whom they had the altercation.
The men started to physically and verbally abuse them but the brothers did not respond, and walked away. The men also left. However Ramdhani and his brother were unaware that they men had gone to a dark and lonely spot to ambush them.
The dead man’s brother explained that one of the attackers pulled out a knife and plunged it into his brother, before removing the knife again. He said that he attempted to go to Ramdhani’s rescue but he was attacked by the father of the man who had stabbed his brother.
Daniel Ramdhani said that he was forced to run for his life, leaving his badly wounded brother behind, as the two suspects chased after him. He said he had to lay in a dark corner on the parapet of a street to hide from the suspects.
After some time elapsed, he emerged from his hiding place and hurried back to the place where he left his brother bleeding. However by then he noticed that persons were taking his brother to the Port Mourant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
He also raced to the hospital, but was prevented from seeing his brother. He later returned to the scene with the police and checks were made, but the suspects had disappeared.
Investigations are continuing.
