Six-member Guyanese team aiming for medals

They have not been strangers on the podium at the Caribbean level in the Road Race and
so the six-member Guyana team competing at the 9th Junior Caribbean Championships in Paramaribo, Suriname have set their sights on maintain this tradition today.
It will be a keen contest that features the best riders at the juvenile, junior and female levels in the Caribbean battling for supremacy, bragging rights and the top three podium spots on offer.
Guyana’s challenge in the junior category would be led by the experienced Michael Anthony who won the bronze medal last year when the championships were held in Aruba. The strong team also has last year’s silver medalist Akeem Arthur, National Road Race junior champion Stephano Husbands in his first year at this level and Alanzo Ambrose also his first year. It is the final year at this level for the quartet.
In the juvenile division, debutants, National champion Andrew Hicks and Raphael Leung will be aiming to ink their names in the history books of the Caribbean Cycling Union.
Manager/Coach Mark Sonoram, like President of the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) are both confident that the Guyanese riders will be on the medal podium today. While yesterday was hot, today is anticipated to be even more humid.
The juveniles will cover a distance of 68 km and the juniors, 92 km. Race time for the juveniles will be 08:00hrs, juniors pedals off at 09:30hrs and 12:00hrs the females.
