A police corporal was yesterday ordered arrested and thrown into the lock ups by a sitting Magistrate after she was deemed to be rude to the court.
Police Detective Corporal (Debra Leitch) was at the time giving evidence for the prosecution before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Albion Magistrate’s Court in the murder case of Davindra Deodat 34, called ‘Dave’, of Hampshire Squatting Area, Corentyne, Berbice, which occurred on October 07th, 2013.
On trial are brothers Ramnarine Jagmohan, 28, of Belvedere Squatting Area, Corentyne a farmer, and Neshan Jagmohan, 23, a cane harvester of Hampshire Squatting Area, Corentyne.
The case is being prosecuted by Mursalene Bacchus.
During her evidence the corporal was deemed to have become disrespectful to the court. She was warned and become insolent to the Magistrate. She was then cited for misconduct in court and the Magistrate asked her if she had anything to say. As the Magistrate was speaking to the officer she refused to look in his direction. She continued to look away then uttered “I am sorry.”
The officer was ordered removed from the courts and placed in the lock ups until the end of the court session. The prosecution’s case contends that the brothers, while in the company of others and armed with dangerous weapons, including guns and cutlasses, murdered Deodat at Hampshire Squatting Area, Corentyne.
Deodat, the owner of the Cool Running’s Trucking Service, was chopped and shot dead after a group of masked men stormed the grocery shop which he and his wife operated.
