Despite being proclaimed as a forerunner for the upcoming Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) third leg set to be staged here in Guyana, local racers have pledged to do more than just test the reliability and quickness of their machines come tomorrow when the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club stages its ‘Race of Champions’ Meet, at the South Dakota Circuit.
According to a source from the GMR&SC most of the categories have been subscribed and fans could expect a day of exhilarating rivalry throughout the day.
Some twenty-four races are carded for the day and the official from the Organisers said that the Group 1 category could see a major showdown between Kasim Hoosein, Daniel Dookie, Shameer Mohammed, Azad Hassan and Sunil Singh.
The Group 2 division could be a toss-up between WR Reaz, US-based John Joseph, Chet Singh, Shane Seejattan, Roshan Ali, Andre Dhanraj and Danny Persaud.
In the Group 3 category, Shairaz Roshandin, Syed Hassan, Reza Allie, Motilall Deodass, Danny and Shane Seejattan should be among those vying for top honours, while the Group 4 division though not fully confirmed is a straight fight between Kevin Jeffrey, Danny Persaud and Ryan Rahaman.
The 125cc motorcycle scrap will see the likes of veteran Terrence Clarke, Heeranand and Hemanand Boodram, Charles Henry and Matthew Vieira battle for top honours, while the Superbike division is a tussle that involves Kevin Persaud, Nikhil Seereeram, Matthew Vieira and Nicholas Boodram.
