The Pomeroon Sports Committee donated cricket balls to eight cricket clubs in the Upper and Lower Pomeroon on Monday last at Xenon Hotel Boardroom in Charity. The balls were purchased using the $50,000 the Pomeroon Area Committee received from the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) in July this year.
The GCB started a countrywide outreach programme donating money and necessary equipment to the various regions in an effort to help develop the game in those areas. Each of the eight Area Committees in Essequibo received $50,000; similar donations were also made in Berbice and Linden.
The clubs that received the balls from the Upper Pomeroon area are Eagle Sports Club, Rising Sun Sports Club and Jack-Low Sports Club. From the Lower Pomerron area, Pomeroon Oil Mill from Charity, Tenneze Ferme Sports Club, Friendship Sports club, Super Kings Friendship Sports Club and Scorpion Sports Club.
The distribution was made at the Pomeroon Sports Committee Executive Meeting where the Nobert Alphonso and Hassan Rahim Memorial T20 competition was officially launched. The eight clubs that received balls would be competing in this competition which will commence on Sunday.
