A 63-year-old grandmother of ten will be spending several of her weekends doing community service after she admitted yesterday to having marijuana in her home.
Barbara Pindar of Cross and Leopold Streets, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where she pleaded guilty to a possession of narcotics charge.
According to Police Prosecutor, Kerry Bostwick, on Wednesday (September 24) around 11:30 hours, acting on a tip-off, a party of police ranks went to her house where they conducted a search in her presence.
He said during the search, the ranks found the marijuana in a bottle on a table. Pindar was then arrested and taken to the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) where the illicit substance was weighed and amounted to 4 grammes.
Pindar’s lawyer, Clive Forde, said that his client is a mother of four and grandmother of ten. Forde told the court that this was Pindar’s first offence and she was very sorry for what happened.
Pindar was fined $3000 and ordered to complete 52 hours of community service. She is expected to complete two hours every Saturday, except on holidays. The grandmother was instructed to report to the Brickdam Police Station on Saturday at 09:00 hours.
