Dear Editor,
Wow!
Very bold of you Adam Harris! Now you wait as a target. And targeted for sure you are and will be.
You full well know from your studies of history and from current political activities all over the world (Putin is a good example), that the press is always a target.
They are not supposed to write about realities. They are not supposed to write about truths.
They are not allowed to express serious opinions in their Editorials. They are not allowed to expose wrongdoings. Generally, they are only allowed to sing the praises of the government in every activity that can be window dressed. Only positive reports and comments on government works are acceptable. As a former public employee in Guyana and in Canada, I full well know how powerful politicians can be, how directive they can be, and how they settle and straighten what or whom they consider to be waywards.
In a small place like Guyana, no political action is that secret, nor is any forcible action by the so called public officials allegedly working in the due exercise of their duties, aka ‘the Sattaur principle.’
Probably Sattaur is an extension of the political spectrum, given the special conditions of his employment contract, the method of his appointment and the apparent nepotism in his office.
It boggled my mind that KN readily agreed to publish his nepotism denial letter immediately, quite unlike letters that generally have to wait a 24 hour moratorium before publication. Plus KN should have torn it to pieces by editorial comments, especially on the threats he stated therein.
There is absolutely no doubt that the government does not like KN as was evidenced by past actions by the government and its ministries, such as not being invited to press conferences, refusals to meet with its reporters, and denials of advertisements on government programmes.
Now through one of its appointed contract employees, it has upped its attacks.
KN…. time to do some genuflecting, beg pardon and write lies and more lies, because the strangulating tentacles all around you will snuff out every breadth of your excellent paper.
Honesty and Truth are rarities in Guyana.
