During the course of this week, the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development procured more tools under the $500M funds allocated for the Georgetown “Clean-Up My Country” programme.
The equipment included spades, shovels, wheelbarrows, rakes, commercial buckets, garbage bags, long boots, gloves, reflector vests and brush cutters.
Residents of East La Penitence, La Penitence, Albouystown, West Ruimveldt, East Ruimveldt, Stevedore and Lamaha Park have benefitted from the massive clean-up programme, particularly with the removal of overgrown vegetation and better drainage systems in the respective communities, which many citizens concur, will contribute significantly towards improving the environment as well as the health and safety of the residents.
Today, the Community Development Group in Tiger Bay will embark upon improving the aesthetics and sanitation of their community. All internal drains will be de-silted, parapets will be cleared of debris and illegal dumpsites will be removed.
Under the Clean up my Country Programme, the Government of Guyana intends for every community to be positively impacted and the residents to be the primary beneficiaries of this project.
