Police at Matthews Ridge in the North West District are trying to piece together the puzzle that was left after the discovery of the partially nude body of a 32-year-old woman early yesterday morning.
The woman has been identified as Samantha Ashby of Pakera, North West District (NWD).
Police in a press release stated that Ashby’s body was discovered in a clump of bushes at Matthews Ridge, NWD, at about 10:45 h yesterday.
According to a source, the discovery was made by some schoolchildren near a playfield in the community. From all indications, the woman died sometime Monday night.
The source said that although there were no immediately visible marks of violence on the woman’s body, investigators are almost certain that they are dealing with a sexual attack and murder.
“The body was not decomposed. She only had on a brassiere and a jersey; her underwear and a pair of underpants were found a short distance away from the body,” the source said.
Investigators will have to ascertain the last person Ashby was with before she died, in an effort to establish what led to her death.
Her body is at the Matthews Ridge Hospital Mortuary awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.
