Residents living in and around Grant Burn Bush, in the Lower Pomeroon River, are breathing
a sigh of relief, after a hunter shot and killed a young Jaguar (tiger cat). The animal was creating havoc in the area. The Jaguar had killed numerous dogs in the last three months.
The large cat which was discovered trapped in a Hindu Community compound, at Grant Burn Bush, Pomeroon was moments later shot and killed by firearm holder, Paul Gonsalves.
Gonsalves said he was awakened around 1:00AM, Friday morning by an alert neighbour who resides next door to the Mandir. The neighbour who was awakened by persistent barking of dogs in the area suspected that the Jaguar, who preyed on dogs could possibly be lurking nearby.
He went in search of Gonsalves, who responded promptly and proceeded to shoot the Jaguar. Many farmers at Grant Burn Bush, Lower Pomeroon were prevented from venturing into their farms, fearful of being attacked by the vicious animal.
