A 21-year-old labourer was yesterday granted $25,000 bail on a charge of being in possession of a fake US$100 note. Joshua Adams appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to charges of possession of forged currency and uttering a forged document.
The court heard that on September 5, last at South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, Adams uttered the fake note to Mariska Adams.
To the charges Adams pleaded guilty and explained that he got the money from an uncle. He said, “Your honour, at the time, I didn’t know it was counterfeit.”
Based on his explanation, a not guilty plea was entered by the Chief Magistrate. The case is being prosecuted by Inspector Michael Grant who did not reveal the details of the crime. He did not object to bail. The Chief Magistrate ordered a probation report be presented for Adams. The case is set to be called again on September 26.
