Sub-division No. 3, West Berbice, defeated sub-division No. 1, New Amsterdam/ Canje, East Bank and East Coast Berbice, 3-0 when they clashed in the final of the Police ‘B’ Division Youth and Scout groups, Inter sub-division football competition, played among the three subdivisions at the Rose Hall Community Centre Ground, Saturday afternoon last.
Peter Wilson netted a double while Sherwin Winfield scored once. Other members of the winning team are Sherwin Whinfield, Peter Wilson, Eric Fordyce, Joshua Fraser, Twancy Chapman, Shondy Farmer and Jowani Fraser.
In earlier encounters, sub-division No. 1 edged past their counterparts from sub-division No. 2 Corentyne on sudden death penalty kicks after the two teams had played to a 0-0 draw at the end of the 20 minutes regulation time.
The initiative is in keeping with the efforts of officers of the Police ‘B’ Division under the leadership of Commander, Assistant Commissioner Brian Joseph and his Second in Command, Senior Superintendent Marlon Chapman.
The pivotal objective is to engage the youths in developmental activities in order to keep them away from crime. Officer Joseph kicked off the ball to officially start the match while Assistant Superintendent Terrence Brown presented the winners with their prize.
