Police are looking for a white Toyota Spacio car bearing registration number PRR 4395, which three men stole from a businessman after dragging him from his vehicle at around 05.00 hrs on Sunday at Cross Street, Alexander Village.
The men had reportedly trailed Ramanand Jagdeo from Peter’s Hall. East Bank Demerara, and caught up with him on Cross Street, near GUYTRAC, where he had stopped to talk to a friend.
According to information received, the men approached Jagdeo and pulled him out of his car which had more than $1.2M in goods and $300,000 in cash before escaping in it.
The Diamond, East Bank Demerara businessman told Kaieteur News that he was going into Alexander Village to pick up a worker, and had stopped on the Public Road at Peter’s Hall to call out to a friend, when a car drove past him and stopped a short distance away.
“A man come out and walk towards me and asked if everything okay and I said ‘yes.’ Then another guy came out from the car and ask the same thing and I suspect they up to something, so I tried to act brave and jumped out the vehicle and started calling hard for my friend, who then come outside and the men leave,” the businessman said.
He explained that while talking to his friend, the men drove north and waited for several minutes at the traffic light near the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
The businessman added that when he realized that the men had left, he drove off.
“My right side rear view mirror broke and I couldn’t really see at the back of the car because I had goods pack up high. When I reached GUYTRAC, I see my friend so I stopped to say ‘hi,’ but I notice he didn’t say anything and less that a second after, two men come and pull me out the vehicle and they drive away (with the vehicle),” Jagdeo said.
The father of two said that he immediately went to the Ruimveldt Police Station where he saw a padlock on the station’s gate.
“I had to call and call until a female police came out and I gave her the details. She write it on a piece of paper and say she will send the information out to all the police stations, but I don’t know what is going on,” Jagdeo said.
The businessman is pleading with the police to assist him in getting his vehicle with his goods and money as soon as possible.
