We on the East Coast Demerara have had enough of the cricket politics. The East Coast Cricket Board, while continuously fighting the DCB and GCB, has failed to hold elections since 2009. I understand that an attempt was made in 2011 but Mr. Bissoondyal Singh called a few friends for a drink and referred to the event as an AGM.
How can someone who failed to have an election continue to parade as an office bearer? The youths on the East Coast are suffering. The Enmore club and, to some extent, Enterprise club should be commended for continuing to liaise with the DCB and GCB to ensure our cricketers play in their tournaments.
The former East Coast Cricket Board (note ‘former’ because they are now defunct) continues to make threats to deny these youths opportunities. The so called “Executives” of East Coast Cricket have been threatening clubs, cricketers and parents with court actions and ban if they participate in competitions of the DCB and GCB, while no cricket is being played under the ECCB. One competition has been played for four years and is yet to be completed.
I urge the clubs on the East Coast to seek help from the DCB and GCB. If we do not then we are depriving our youths from benefiting through these parent bodies, as the entire country seems to be collecting funding and equipment through their legitimate structure.
Our national youth teams performed well this year and I must commend the GCB for these results. Please help us on the East Coast.
Yours sincerely
