The Guyana Mixed Martial Arts Karate Association of Diamond East Bank Demerara turned in some good performances at last weekend’s Pan Caribbean Guyana Martial Arts Tournament held at the National Gymnasium.
The team secured 15 medals, 5 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze from the 10 students who entered the various events. Among those winning medals were Zafar Ramnarine who got first place in traditional Kata and Calvin Ramcharran who copped third place in both Weapon Kata and Self-Defense.
Shiloh Sydney won silver in sparring; Daniel Chandler won silver in Kata and bronze in Kumite; Philip Jaikisson won silver in Self Defense; Christopher Mahadeo won gold in Kata; Portia Schepmyer won gold in both Traditional Kata and Self-Defense and silver in Kumite and Weapon; Stephen Singh won gold in Weapon Kata and silver in Self Defense; Mark Ramotar won bronze in traditional Kata.
Master Ramnarine congratulated his team for their excellent showing while encouraging them to keep up the hard work.
