Officials of the Guyana Police Force continue to intensify efforts to form alliances with the communities and Commander of B Division, Assistant Commissioner Brian Joseph and his second in command, Senior Superintendent Marlon Chapman, successfully organized a 5 over cricket competition for those youth and scout groups in Berbice at the Rose Hall Community Centre in East Canje on Sunday last.
The primary objective of the exercise is to engage those principals in productive activity and participants were drawn from #1 Sub-Division, New Amsterdam/ Canje, East Bank and East Coast Berbice, # 2 sub-division, Corentyne and the #3 sub-division, West Berbice. The Rose Hall Town Under-17 cricket team was also involved in the activity.
In the first encounter, #1 Sub Division opposed their counterparts from #2 Sub Divisions and the latter team took first strike, amassing 41-4 off their allotted overs. No. 1 sub-division then raced to 42-5 in 4.4 overs to cart off the honours.
Bowling for No. 1 sub-division Steve Roopnarine and Ryan Balgobin picked up 2 wickets each while the pick of the bowlers for No. 2 sub-division were Dajendra Nauth, who picked up 3 wickets while Devon Williams grabbed 2.
In the second game which was played between No. 3 sub-divisions and Rose Hall Town U-17 ended in favour of the latter team after #3 sub-division batted first and made 29-4 off their overs. Rose Hall Town in reply reached 30-4. Bowling for No. 3 sub-division, Anil Ramnarine and John Fraser snared 2 wickets each.
The final was then played between No.1 sub-division and Rose Hall Town U-17 and the latter team was asked to take first strike, amassing 26-5 in the allotted overs. No. 1 sub-division then raced to 28-1 in 3 overs to claim the spoils by nine wickets.
Bowling for No. 1 sub-division -Terry Karran and Steve Roopnarine picked up 2 wickets each while Daniel Singh took 1. The winners received their prize from Assistant Commissioner, Joseph.
