Lately, the “Clean-Up My Country” Programme Committee has been experiencing difficulties in removing obstacles that hinder the sanitation of communities.
According to Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Olive Gopaul, these encumbrances include squatters occupying government reserves, abandoned vehicles and their parts along areas that require cleaning.
Gopaul related to this publication, that the Mayor and City Council of Georgetown are tasked with the responsibility of removing these encumbrances that prevent the cleaning of areas in the communities, but noted that ongoing conflicts in the Council, seem to be hindering its role in the clean-up of the city, as it has not been active in removing obstacles that prevent the city’s sanitation.
The Ministry of Local Government and the Environment is awaiting the intervention of the Mayor and City Council to facilitate the clean-up process by removing these encumbrances.
