The third and final trial to select the Berbice Senior One-Day Team for the 50-over Inter-County Tournament concluded yesterday at Albion with Deonarine’s XI beating Permaul’s XI by six wickets.
Veerasammy Permaul won the toss and opted to take first strike and his team scored a disappointing 130 all-out in 36 overs. Seon Hetmyer continued his good run with 31 and was supported by Permaul with 29. Bowling for Deonarine’s XI, the skipper took 2-4, Krisendat Ramoo 2-17 and Raun Johnson 2-33.
In reply, Deonarine’s XI raced to 131-4 with Devon Clements remaining unbeaten with 46, National player Rajiv Ivan made 38 while Kandasammy Surujnarine and Rafael Estriado supported with 22 each. Permaul took 2-4 and pacer Keiron Fraser 2-30.
The Berbice Board selectors shortlisted a Berbice Rest team which will be led by all-rounder Devon Clements to challenge Albion, the winner of the Anirudh Ramcharitar First Division competition, in a feature 50-Over game tomorrow at the Albion from 09:00hrs.
The Berbice Rest team: Devon Clements (Captain), Rafael Estriado, Shimron Hetmyer, Seon Hetmyer, Joemal Lafleur, Rajiv Ivan, Romario Shepherd, Jason Sinclair (wk), Shawn Perreira, Krisendat Ramoo, Raun Johnson, Keon Joseph, Suresh Dhanai, Keiron Fraser, Kevin Ramdeen, Stephen Latcha.
Albion will be spearheaded by West Indies players Veerasammy Permaul, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Devendra Bishoo and Narsingh Deonarine while Gudakesh Motie and Jonathan Foo will also be in their line-up.
