A construction worker charged for breaking into a woman’s house in North East La Penitence, Georgetown, and making off with almost $300,000 in items has been remanded to prison.
Cleveland Nurse, of North East La Penitence Squatting Area, was taken before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to respond to a break and enter and larceny charge. He pleaded not guilty.
The court heard that on January 4, last, Nurse broke into Vanessa Sampson’s North East La Penitence home and stole a laptop, digital camera, haversack and a large quantity of groceries. The items, which belonged to Sampson, amounted to $270,000.
The case was prosecuted by Police Corporal, Seon Blackman who did not reveal the details of the burglary. He however objected to Nurse being granted bail, stating that the accused had been evading the police for quite some time.
Blackman explained that he was summoned to appear before the court for this matter on March 4, last, but he never came and it was “struck out.” He said, however, after the police caught him recently, he was brought to face the charge.
The Magistrate granted the Prosecution’s request and remanded Nurse to prison. He will appear before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on September 29.
