…donates money and cricket equipment
The Mining town of Linden has benefitted from the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) developmental outreached programme last Sunday when several members of the Board made two donations to the district at the Bayrock Community Centre ground after a meeting with representatives of East Bank Demerara Cricket Association and Upper Demerara Cricket Committee.
The GCB handed over $250,000 to the Bayrock club and a similar amount to the Regional Authority as well as six bats and five boxes of balls for the development of the game in the area.
Speaking at the meeting which included Territorial Developmental Officer Colin Stuart, Regional Chairman Sharma Solomon, President of the East Bank Demerara Cricket Association Rohan Sarjoo and President of the Upper Demerara Cricket Committee Lancelot Eastman, GCB Secretary Anand Sanasie said that the board will assist with four truckloads of dirt to rebuild the pitches at Bayrock.
Sanasie stated that Mr. Easton continuously petitioned the GCB for help over the past 15 years and whenever he went to Bayrock ground, he saw cricket playing and developmental works ongoing adding that the Board finds it necessary to aid in the progress of the sport in the Region.
“As part of the GCB Developmental programme, we have been going around the country assisting clubs and associations to expand and develop cricket in various ways”, he added.
Easton said this effort from the GCB is a step towards development, and he is hopeful that more players from Linden will represent Demerara and Guyana in the near future.
“This is the best we have gotten from any cricket fraternity in Guyana for the 35 years I have been involved in the game. We have a lot of talented young cricketers but only one (Stephon Browne) managed to make the Demerara U-19 team this year. We are looking to get more young players involved and we are extremely thankful to the GCB for giving us a drive. This is the beginning of better things for cricket in Linden,” stated Easton.
Solomon thanked the GCB for their input and promised to put the contribution to proper and meaningful use.
“Cricket has always been a feature in sports in Region 10, and this is one of the most inspiring moments for the game here for which we are grateful. On behalf of the many cricketers and potential cricketers, I must thank the GCB.”
President of the East Bank Cricket Association Mr. Rohan Sarjoo expressed gratitude to the GCB for assisting Linden, Farm and Providence. The clubs at Farm and Providence recently received assistance from the GCB, to improve their facilities.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
