Close to 100 youths drawn from Agricola, East Bank Demerara to Kuru Kururu on the
Linden Soesdyke Highway yesterday commenced a one-week Academy at the Grove Playfield, East Bank Demerara organised by the East Bank Football Association.
Being held under the theme, “Success is no accident, it is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do”, a quote from the great Edison Arantes do Nascimento aka Pele, the players would be exposed to the fundamentals of the game and a number of topical issues.
The programme is being sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and will see the Under-14 players being better equipped to be more effective at the club level and in their communities.
Today at 11:00hrs, Commander of Police ‘A’ Division (Georgetown), Senior Superintendent Clifton Hicken is slated to address the youngsters.
