– victim reportedly fled from Venezuela after impregnating ‘suspect’s relative
Deochand Singh, the 48-year-old father of two, who was slain on Wednesday by his 20 year old step son, was reportedly the victim of a bitter family feud which began when he impregnated an underage girl in Venezuela.
A post mortem conducted on Saturday revealed that Singh, of Freeyard, Port Mourant, Berbice, sustained some 18 stab wounds, including 14 around his neck.
He also had lacerations about his body and a wound to his head.
Singh had lived with the suspect’s mother who bore two children for him. The woman also has three older children.
The suspect, who is a labourer, was arrested while he was still in the process of cleaning up after the act, which occurred around 20:30 hrs.
The gruesome incident was described as a crime of passion as the two men reportedly had an ongoing feud. At the time, the family was living in Venezuela and Deochand Singh had reportedly fathered a child with an underage relative. He reportedly then escaped to Guyana.
Singh, who was a hire car driver, was also well known to the authorities as he was said to be a con artist and was constantly in trouble. It was also revealed that the man and his stepsons, especially the suspect, were not on good terms because of the ‘fraud scheme’.
His eldest stepson was recently charged with fraud. The stepsons were also said to be bitter that the man had impregnated their underage relative.
On Wednesday, Singh went to a wake house and was entering his residence when the stepson, who was allegedly armed with a cutlass, knife and a piece of wood, attacked him.
It is understood that the attacker and other individuals then threw the body in a pond in the yard and were heard exclaiming “let them fish eat he out.”
Police are still looking for several individuals who have disappeared and might be able to provide some more useful information. They were told that more than one person committed the crime.
