Dear Editor,
Reference is made to the GCB’S letter dated 2014-08-12 in the Kaieteur newspaper under the caption ‘GCB RESPONDS TO ELROY STEPHNEY’S LETTER’. It was never my intention to easily score against the Guyana Cricket Board following the publishing of my letter on the same date that the GCB responded.
Instead I was merely exposing what was a piece of misleading and inaccurate information that was posted. In fact there is other incorrect information such as having the Gunners, Young Achievers and Lima Sports clubs as members of Central Essequibo; instead these clubs are from North Essequibo. The GCB responded by denying my claims and posted its website as www.guyanacricketboard.com which indeed has updated information and other relevant statistics of the GCB.
I wish to publicly congratulate the national under-15 and under-19 teams for securing regional titles. However the Essequibo Cricket Board does not have an official web site. Therefore, information regarding the county, including the Board’s constitution is available and I presume that it is compliments of the GCB’S web site. If someone were to browse the site, a brief history about the ECB and the listing of the eight area committees can be found. Information regarding the North Essequibo Cricket Committee can conversely be found at www.guyanacricket.com/northessequibocricketcommittee.com.
This site has all the relevant information regarding the Guyana Cricket Board and includes headings such as Home, Clubs, Govern, Articles, Players and Scorecards which comprehensively contains the history of the GCB including the names of current and past players that would have represented their respective counties.
Surprisingly my name was not featured on Essequibo’s list despite having captained my county at all levels. It is the very site that contains the misleading information regarding the executives of North Essequibo which officially conducted its AGM for 2011 on January 31st, 2011 at the ECB Hostel, with Mr. Prince Holder securing the Presidency. The site instead has Mr. Anand Azad heading the Committee, naming Sparta as the venue and elections held on February, 13th, 2011.
If the site is not being operated by the GCB then I may wish to know who would have posted such voluminous information and which has official news of the Board? The data includes updated news on the CPL and the Regional under-19 tournament. The NECC will not allow the rights of the Committee to be trampled upon, especially if there is a sinister motive to discredit the true executives of the NECC who continues to diligently serve under the Presidency of Mr. Prince Holder.
I would have detected a wrong which I thrust the GCB may wish to correct, liable to acknowledging ownership of the particular site which I was told, was created and hosted by the GCB before 2014.
Elroy Stephney
