A tailor from Wismar, Linden, was remanded to prison yesterday after he appeared before a city Magistrate to respond to an escape from lawful custody charge.
Ashby Blair allegedly escaped from ranks at the Wismar Police Station.
The charge which was read by Magistrate Ann McLennan stated that on August 10, while being held pending an investigation into allegations of indecent exposure, Blair escaped from lawful custody.
The accused pleaded not guilty and submitted a bail application though he was unrepresented by legal counsel.
Sergeant Gordon Mansfield, who prosecuted, did not explain the details of the incident.
Objecting to bail, Mansfield opined that the accused was a flight risk who would not return to court to face the charge since another charge for indecent exposure looms.
Upholding the Prosecution’s request, the Magistrate remanded Blair to prison. The case is set to be called again on September 11 before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
