Off spinner Ramaal Lewis grabbed 4-18 off 4.4 overs and Mark Parchment stroked an unbeaten
49 to hand Jamaica a seven-wicket victory over ICC Americas in the third round of the Regional U-19 50-over tournament yesterday.
ICC Americas were pegged back by steady bowling and were bowled out for 123 in 23.4 overs at the Everest Cricket Club. The Jamaicans hardly encountered any difficulty in overhauling their target, finishing on 126-3 in 22 overs.
After the game was reduced to 24 overs due to a late start caused by rain, ICC Americas were asked to bat, but found it difficult to find momentum on a two paced track. Oshane Thomas provided his team with the breakthrough when he had Vibhav Altekar (03) taken in the slips with only four runs on the tins.
Alex Dore (13) and Abraash Khan (15) added 18 for the second wicket; the duo looked comfortable against the pacers, but found the bowling of Lewis a handful. Lewis operated with variation and soon had Khan caught at the wicket before Ryon Burnette sent back Dore and Nikhil Dutta (02) leaving the score at 41-4.
Onias Bascome (12) smashed Burnette for a straight six, but was run out attempting an ill advised single. Armaan Kapoor gave the innings much needed impetus with a run a ball 33. He deposited Lewis for a maximum and caressed Thomas for four.
He added 31 for the eight wicket with skipper Delory Rawlings (14), but the rest of the batting offered little support. Thomas supported Lewis with 2-23. Leroy Lugg and Odaine Mc Catty got Jamaica off to a bright start with an opening stand of 45.
Lugg drove Abraash Khan down the ground for a boundary while Mc Catty struck the pacer for a four and two sixes. Lugg stroked Rawlings for another boundary before he was dismissed for 22. Medium pacer Bascome then removed Mc Catty for 39 and Shahid Crooks (03), but Parchment executed a number of handsome shots and
shared in an unfinished fourth wicket stand of 43 with Romaine Morris (06*) to see his team home.
Parchment drove Bascome to the extra cover boundary and hit Rawlings over mid wicket the next over to seal the issue. He faced 44 balls and accounted for six fours and one maximum. Bascome was the pick of the bowlers with 2-34.
Meanwhile Rain forced abandonment without a ball bowled in the match between Leeward Islands and Windward Islands at Enmore. The competition continues tomorrow with Jamaica facing Trinidad and Tobago at DCC, ICC Americas playing Windwards at Wales and Leewards battling Barbados at Everest.
