Despite an attacking hundred by Marlon Samuels the Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated Antigua Hawksbills by 19 runs when the Caribbean Premier League T20 tournament continued last night at Warner Park in St. Kitts.
Samuels smashed an unbeaten 106 off 52 balls with ten fours and eight sixes. He shared in a fourth wicket stand of 161 with Orlando Peters who ended on 67 not out after they were reduced to 32-3 in reply to the Warriors 212.
Peters faced 45 balls hitting four fours and five maximums as the Hawksbills ended on 193-3. Krishmar Santokie, Veerasammy Permaul and Navin Stewart picked up one wicket each.
Earlier, Martin Guptill fashioned a brisk 90 at the top of order to guide the Warriors to a commendable total. The Warriors lost the early wickets of Lendl Simmons for a duck and Mohammad Hafeez (08), but Guptill and Denesh Ramdin rallied the innings with a third wicket stand of 114.
Guptill’s innings contained seven fours and six maximums and came off 51 balls while Ramdin faced 34 balls in scoring 51 with five fours and two sixes. Christopher Barnwell smashed one four and four sixes in a robust 37 towards the end. Gavin Tongue was the leading wicket taker with 2-46 for the losers.
