Newcomer Dynamic Airways is apparently facing more hurdles. The airline was supposed to restart Georgetown/New York bound flights today but this not materialised. There have been no official announcements in this regard.
After an embarrassing start in June, the company had to pull its services out of Guyana, because due to a variety of setbacks it could not deliver on its obligation to take passengers to their final destination at the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport in New York.
Kaieteur News understands that travel agencies in the United States which offer services on behalf of the airline have been told to refund all passengers with ticket fares, while local agencies are still awaiting word on when the airline will recommence service here.
This publication has heard, however, that should the airline sort out its issues it may not be back in Guyana until November, completely missing the peak season, during which it had so desperately tried to commence service.
The airline’s social websites and internet pages, however, continue to say that the company will recommence service on August 8, today.
This newspaper understands that when passengers called the United States-based operations, they were told that flights from August to November have been cancelled. An operable computer software system that can operate at the JFK airport seems to be one of the hurdles currently faced by the agency.
However, the airline has informed that the first flight from Guyana is set for early November.
Local Dynamic Airways handler Captain Gerry Gouveia is expected to meet with the airline’s officials in the US in the next few days. Following this, an announcement might be made as to how soon the airline will officially return.
In the meantime, passengers are furious over the “royal runaround” they have experienced in trying to obtain refunds. This was after many had to personally pay for returning flights as the company had failed to fly them back home.
When the company had pulled out of the market, those who would have booked a round trip with the airline had to buy tickets from other airlines to get back to their destinations, despite promises of a full refund.
To date some passengers are yet to receive their money. As recent as yesterday, one man told Kaieteur News that he paid over US$350 to get back to Guyana and he was only refunded G$40,000. This, he said, is despite the company promising a full refund.
He said he will be seeking legal advice.
Dynamic Airways commenced its service and arrived a few hours late on its inaugural flight. When passengers arrived at JFK, the flight had not received clearance and passengers were subjected to intense security.
Gouveia had said that it was because the company’s ground handling team – which was later fired – had caused untagged bags to get onto the aircraft. The loss of the ground handler meant the loss of Dynamic’s gate position.
As a result, the airline was prohibited from operating at JFK, especially since a letter to the company from airport authorities had stated that they were still to submit additional documentation which would have enabled them to land at the port.
Passengers were then flown to various states and driven to the JFK airport.
Dynamic apologized extensively to passengers for the issues they faced and claimed their return would be bigger and better.
