A man who has been described as a serial bandit has been nabbed and remanded to jail. Chempton Grey called ‘Chempton Solomon’, 25, of Alness Village, Corentyne, Berbice who was wanted for a number of misdemeanors, appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh on Wednesday at the Whim Magistrate’s Court on a charge of robbery under arms. He was remanded.
The court was told that on the 25th March 2013 at Alness Village Corentyne Berbice while in the company of others and armed with a dangerous weapon, Grey robbed his cousin Khene Park of $300,000 before making good his escape.
The man who was reportedly part of a notorious gang that operated in the Central Corentyne area was wanted for a number of crimes and was on the run for a considerable time before he was nabbed.
He is expected to make a court appearance on August 20 when the matter will be called for report.
In the meanwhile the police are gathering information on the matters that the man and his gang were said to be involved in.
