Police are trying to determine whether the owner of a Ford F150 pickup had any sinister motives for driving around the city and elsewhere with false diplomatic plates on his vehicle.
Police impounded the heavily-tinted pickup with the number plates ‘DC 74’ a few days ago and have reportedly detained the owner. They also searched an East Coast Demerara house during their investigation.
Kaieteur News understands that the vehicle has been impounded at CID Headquarters, Eve Leary.
Police have conducted a thorough search of the pickup, even employing their bomb- and drug-sniffing dogs in the search.
“The vehicle is not registered with any diplomatic missions here. When a heavily-tinted vehicle is driving around with false diplomatic plates you suspect either drugs or guns are involved,” a police official said.
Kaieteur News understands the vehicle owner has told police that he placed the false diplomatic plates on the pickup “for kicks.”
But even this is said to be considered a serious offence for which the vehicle owner could be charged.
