– Battle Hymn scores double, Cat Messiah and Perfect Wind Storm also outstanding
By Samuel Whyte
Score’s Even of the Dennis DeRoop Simple Royal Stable on the Corentyne, a drawing card at any race meet in Guyana, continues to dominate the racing circle with impressive performances whenever it is given the opportunity to participate. Guyana’s number one racehorse, with a ranking of A1, did not disappoint.
Given that chance to race on Sunday when the Kennard Memorial Turf Club held their Grand Annual Emancipation one day horserace meet at its Bush Lot Farm Corentyne, Berbice track, the racehorse used the occasion to dish out another gate to pole beating on its opponents.
Carrying a weight of 130 pounds and piloted by top Jockey Randolph Richmond and running with a body weight of over 1000 pounds, the Kentucky bred animal again displayed its ability. Racing away from the rest of the field as they left the starting gates, Score’s Even was all alone using its powerful stride to create distance from its opponents.
Cruising for most of the way, the powerful racehorse accelerated down the home stretch for the lopsided win to take the feature A and lower one mile event and the $1M first prize and trophy compliments of Peter Lewis and Sons Construction Company.
Battle Hymn of The Sooklall Stable sermonized it opponents, dominating proceedings with two convincing victories to be crowned champion horse on show. Imported from Trinidad less than a year ago, the animal not only won its first even but scored the double. With Jockey Yap Drepaul on the mount the horse raced away with the G3 Non winners’ five furlongs event and the $300,000 top prize and trophy to get home ahead of a fast finishing Cat Messiah, Bridal Stone Corner and The Legend.
Battle Hymn again with Drepaul returned to battle with its opponents before breaking away down the home stretch to take first place in the G1 six furlongs race and capture the $320,000 first prize and trophy in similar fashion from Red Cloud, Another Jet and Monsoon.
Perfect Wind Storm with Trinidadian jockey Nicholas Patrick on the hunch made a perfect entry to the racing arena in Guyana winning its first race. Imported by the Jagdeo stable, the Kentucky bred animal won the D3 and lower six furlong event with a late surge down the home stretch in a close battle with Princess She Is Not of the Sheriff Stable also in its first race to take the $500,000 purse and trophy as Church House and Dark and Lovely rounded out the money.
Cat Messiah of the Ghansham Singh Stable with the Jamaican Jockey Brian Blake on board also had a good day at the races. After narrowly losing out in the G3 event it returned to toy with its opponents in a gate to pole licking in the ‘I’ and lower 6furlongs encounter to take the $250,000 winners money and trophy from Mary Ann, Party Time and Lady Secret.
Royal Cash with Rodrigues on board rode away with the J1 race from Smarty Light.
The J1 and Lower 5 Furlongs race saw Royal Stallion of The Simple Royal stable with Richmond in the saddles chalking up their second victory to win from Dance for Gold.
Jockey Randolph Richmond was adjudged Champion jockey, while Yap Drepaul was adjudged runner up.
The Simple Royal and Sooklall Stables, with two wins each, were the top stables. The champion horse was Battle Hymn of the Sooklall Stable for its double win. Dennis DeRoop and Sooklall were the top trainers. They received trophies and other rewards compliments of the Trophy Stall and the organizers.
Over 65 horses took part in the day’s proceedings with over $6M being up for grabs in the incident free day of racing.
