– As Guyana Watch continues outreach programme
Three hundred and six residents of La Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara received free medical treatment on the second day of the voluntary outreach programme hosted by the Guyana Watch team.
Patients, who converged at La Parfait Harmonie Primary School yesterday, expressed satisfaction with the quality of medical services they received.
Residents were pleased with the high level of commitment of the medical team.
President of Guyana Watch, Tony Yassin, said that he was pleased with the community’s response since it was the first time that the team provided services in that community.
Members of the volunteer group commented on the impact of the outreach.
Kevin Samaroo, a Guyana- born Canadian public servant conducts hypertension, diabetes tests and also collects medical data for the Guyana Watch group.
Samaroo, who has been with the team for the past 21 years, says that he finds “pleasure,” in humanitarian activities. He said that giving of his time through Guyana Watch, is his contribution towards the improvement of the health status of Guyanese.
Pharmacist, Saurabh Mehta said that his service to Guyana has been a “privilege”. He expressed joy in prescribing medication for Guyanese to improve their health conditions.
Patients were elated at being provided with large quantities of medication, noting that buying same could be a costly exercise.
Yesterday’s dental outreach was also successful, with the distribution of free tooth-brushes and other dental care products.
Dentists Chiran Reddy and Apurva Dave attended to a total of 75 patients, most of whom required fillings, extractions and deep cleanings.
Pediatrician, Dr. Partha Chatergee, with the help of other physicians, treated a total of thirty-five children at the clinic.
He said that quality paediatric health care will ensure a better future for Guyana.
New member of the Guyana Watch team, Dr. Sarah Luber described her first experience in Guyana as “rewarding.” She said that she feels satisfied that she can help people through her profession.
Local businesswoman Kasharie Singh, who owns a cellular phone store, took time off from her daily schedule to assist the Guyana Watch team in conducting diabetes and cholesterol tests.
She said, “I just want to help out my people, if they can come so far to help us, and we are right here, then it should be our duty to help them to help Guyana.”
Tomorrow, the team will be treating patients at the Leonora Primary School.
