Statistician Charwayne Walker looks at the illustrious company Guyanese teenager Shimron Hetmeyer has joined when he scored a century for Guyana during the recent Under-19 3-day campaign here.
When Shimron Hetmeyer reached three figures against the Windward Islands at Everest he emulated his elder sibling Seon, who scored a stroke filled 108 vs. Trinidad and Tobago during the 2008 Regional Under-19 Championship in Barbados. The Hetmeyers now join two other Guyanese brothers that achieved the feat at the Regional Under-19 level. There are the Harpers – Mark and Roger, and the Jackmans – Colin and Andrew.
Mark Harper scored consecutive centuries against the Windward Islands, 140 at Gilbert Park and 102 against Trinidad and Tobago at the same venue during the 1975 Benson and Hedges Under-19 Championship, while Roger scored an unbeaten 102 vs. Barbados at the (Mecca) Kensington Oval in 1980.
Colin Jackman stroked a magnificent 125 against the Combined Islands at Victoria Park, Castries, St. Lucia in 1973. His younger sibling Andrew scored a 151 against Barbados at the Kensington Oval 1980. He put the Bajans to the sword again the following year 1981 with an even hundred, this at Camp Ayanganna.
