A sand-pit operator accused of stealing almost $500,000 in items from his former lover appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to face a simple larceny charge, on Friday. Paul Gittens was accused of stealing several household articles belonging to Barbara Ganesh from the house he shared with her at Moblissa, Soesdkye/ Linden Highway on June 13, last.
Gittens denied the allegations and told Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry that it was not an act of theft. He insisted that the larceny charge resulted from the “wrath of a spurned woman.”
He explained “Your worship, I ain’t ever been in trouble before. This is a woman I used to be with and she tell me she will ensure I get lock up because I had an affair and now I living with another woman.”
“When the police come, I actually give them all the things. It’s things we did buy together and had in the house. She gave me. I ain’t thief nothing. It’s a triangular lover affair problem; everybody know ma’am,” Gittens explained.
The case was prosecuted by Inspector Michael Grant who told the court that the articles had indeed been recovered.
The Prosecution offered no objections thus Gittens was granted bail in the sum of $100,000. The case is set to be called again at the Linden Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
