Lisa punch, the Guyana-born singer selected to compete on ABC’s Rising Star, is scheduled to perform again tonight. Punch is among thirteen listed to participate in duels. This will be her third appearance on the show.
On the last occasion, Punch’s supporters literally “burned the midnight oil” to ensure her advancement on the show.
Punch had participated in a head-to-head duel with fellow contestant Alice Lee, and scored an initial three per cent less during her performance of “Perfect,” a song by American musician, Pink.
Lee received right swipes from all three experts, Brad Paisley, Ludacris and Kesha, Punch only received a positive vote from one (Kesha).
However, due to the mechanism of saving one “Rising Star” contestant, West Coast voters pushed Lisa Punch into the next round.
Punch, scored 66 per cent during the live portion, but scored 67.43% from the West Coast audience. While it still came short of the 68% Lee received from the West Coast, it was the largest percentage scored by any of the contestants eligible for a save.
Of the six contestants involved in head-to-head “duels” three were be crowned winners and automatically promoted to the next level based on their initial performance.
Singers Alice Lee, Megan Tibbits and Jesse Kinch were the first three to claim a quarterfinal spot; the New York-based Guyanese gained the fourth spot to advance to the next round of the competition.
Tonight’s thirteen contestants will perform but only eight will advance to the semi finals. Those who score the lowest number of votes will be sent home.
“Tomorrow night is duel number three! Make sure you tune in and watch the show on ABC! I’ll be there…make sure you swipe Blue for me.” the singer wrote on her facebook page yesterday.
