A 30-year-old handyman was shot in the face at around 20.15 hrs yesterday while fighting with a robber who had attacked him in ‘C’ Field, Sophia.
Anderson Garrett, of Spurwing Drive, South Ruimveldt, was reportedly heading to ‘D’ Field, Sophia, to visit his mother, when a man walked up to him and demanded he hand over his valuables.
However, Garrett decided to put up a fight and was shot in the right side of his face. The robber reportedly fled empty-handed, while police ranks took the wounded man to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
He is said to be in stable condition.
Despite increased patrols, Sophia remains a haven for robbers.
Last month, a 42-year-old driver was shot in the left shoulder and relieved of his valuables in ‘D’ Field, Sophia.
Alim Mohamed, of Lot 521 ‘D’ Field, Sophia, East Coast Demerara, was walking home when a man on a bicycle rode up and demanded that he hand over all that he had.
Believing that the gun was not loaded, Mohamed said he refused and attempted to fight with his attacker, who then shot him.
