Police Headquarters completed Day II of the Guyana Police Force Inter-Division Championships with a 29-point lead over its nearest rival, ‘A’ Division, following the completion of 23 Finals, at the Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary yesterday.
Headquarters closed the day on 200 points with ‘A’ Division on 171 points; ‘C’ Division is third with 77 points with ‘B’ Division in the cellar position on 63 points. The teams will rest today and continue the competition on the final day tomorrow.
Distance runner, Nathaniel Giddings got ‘A’ Division off to a hot start in the Men’s 5000m race when he won in 17:06.9 with Police Headquarters’, Grivon Grant second in 18:01.6; Antigua and Barbuda’s, Nevil Nicholas (18:24.1) finished third.
Jonella Jonas then stormed to victory in the Women’s 800m for ‘C’ Division in a time of 2:27.3, beating Headquarters’, Dellie Williams (2:35.2) and ‘A’ Division’s, Shion Boyer into second and third respectively.
Kadeem Peters won the male 800m Youth Club race in 2:08 while Tamica Crawford (2:34) won the female race. Tevin Garraway outclassed Compton Caesar (23.1) and Dwight Smith (23.4) in the male Youth Club 200m race with his 22.4 seconds performance.
Headquarters won both the female and male medley relays to maintain a tight grip on the overall championships. In the 2400m female medley, they won from ‘A’ Division and ‘C’ Division and in the 200m male medley they beat ‘A’ Division and the overseas team.
In the male Javelin ‘B’ Class, Clarence Greene won with a throw of 44.06m for Headquarters as ‘B’ Division’s, Colwin Leacock (42.81m) and Headquarters’, Warren Duncan 39.63 took second and third respectively.
After holding on to the lead through three rounds of elimination in the Women’s Javelin, and in the first two rounds after elimination, even skipping a throw, Natasha Alder was stunned from a 35.23m throw from Trinidadian, Nathalie Dixon.
Alder lost for Headquarters on Dixon’s last throw after leading with 34.46m. Headquarters had Stacy Wilson (32.13m) third.
In the Female Triple Jump, Tracy Moses had leaped to 10.15m to win the event for ‘A’ Division with Cindy Fraser second for the same Division with 9.45m; Headquarters’, Lashuana Benjamin (8.90m) was third. In the male event, Troy Williams sprung to 13.12m for Headquarters as Yoel Benjamin finished second with 12.94m for ‘A’ Division and Headquarters’, Clarence Greene in third with 12.84m.
