Jamaica managed to gain first innings points from Barbados, but the contest remains evenly poised with the Jamaicans needing a further 192 for victory with nine second innings wickets standing as the Regional U-19 3-Day tournament continued yesterday.
In reply to Barbados first innings score of 120, Jamaica resumed the day on 106-5 and were bowled out for 130 in 60 overs at Everest Cricket Club. Ramaal Lewis (23) and Abijai Mansingh (11), who resumed on 19 and 10 respectively, added five to their overnight sixth wicket stand of 30 before they were both dismissed in quick succession as Jamaica slipped to 111-7. The battle for first innings points continued and it was Jamaica who prevailed.
Chad Williams sent back George Walker (04) with the scores level, but Nicholas Walters with an unbeaten 13 towards the end handed Jamaica a 10-run lead. Williams finished with 7-31 off 21 overs while Neil Persaud had 2-32.
Batting a second time Barbados slipped to 13-3 before Akil Greenidge and Jafari Toppin steadied them with a fourth wicket stand of 52 before they were separated. Toppin top scored with 46 and Greenidge made 39. Subsequently several batsmen failed to carry on after getting starts with Matthew Jones scoring 34, Keon Harding 26, Shamar Springer 23 and Nicholas Kirton 20 as Barbados were bowled out for 211 in 67.1 overs. Lewis was the pick of the bowlers with 5-75 from 29.1 overs, while Odean Smith snared 4-44.
In pursuit of 202 for victory Jamaica closed on 10-1 with Odaine Mc Catty on one and Ramone Francis yet to score. Leroy Lugg was the wicket to fall, bowled by Jones for three at 7-1.
