Red and Lovely, owned by Lisa Ramkisoon of the Night Eyes Racing stables,
ridden by Rupert Ramnauth and trained by Anthony Solomon, ran a lovely race as it created a major upset in dishing out a gate to pole beating on a star studded field to win the feature D class and lower event when the Bush Lot United Turf Club held their one day Horserace meet Sunday at their Sea View Park, Bush Lot West Coast Berbice racetrack.
The feature 1400M event saw eight horses taking to the starting gates with Red and Lovely, Princess Alisha and California Strike being among the early front runners. However, as the race got deeper it was clear that Red and Lovely was up to something big. With the experienced Ramnauth on the hunch, the animal was setting a searing pace as it open up down the back stretch with the others in hot pursuit. Around the far turn and into the homestretch it was still Red and Lovely with Ramnauth giving it full reign.
The animal picked up speed as it cantered home for its first win in a feature event and the $1M winner’s money and the Sandra Sukdeo Indian Fashion Centre Trophy. Princess Alicia held on for second ahead of Jack Is My Style and the Message.
However, the day belonged to the Jumbo Jet Stable with three wins and a number of other placings.
Rosetta of The Jumbo Jet stable with Colin Ross on the perch went out in front early and maintained that lead for an easy win in the F and lower 1400M race from War Craft, Fresh Again and Marathon man. The win was worth $500,000 and trophy.
Release the Best of the Jumbo Jet stable with Brian Blake on its back was released with full
fury as it won the G and lower 1200M event from stable mate, She So Special, Battle Hymn and Ameera’s Joy. The winner raced away with the $300, 000 first prize and trophy.
The Jumbo Jet Stable was again in winner’s row in the two year old Guyana and West Indies 1000M event with Its My Choice ridden by Ross winning a keenly contested duel from Storm Bird to take the $400,000 winners money and trophy. Keep on Singing ran in third.
Red Jet, owned and ridden by Shamsundar and trained by Cleveland Conway, won its third consecutive race as it blazed to a gate to pole victory in the J and lower 1200M event and the $200,000 money as it won from Little and Prxie Fire.
The K and lower 1200M race was won by Secretariat of the Ali stable ahead of Million Dollar Man and Another Storm.
The Jumbo Jet stable ran away with the champion stable award, with trainer Raj Sewsankar taking the champion trainer award. Jockey Colin Ross was again adjudged the top jockey. They received trophies compliments of the Bush Lot United Turf Club and Coordinator Lakeram “Buddy” Sukhdeo.
Nazrudeen Mohamed Jr, owner of the Jumbo Jet stable, was happy about their stable’s recent string of victories following a bit of lapses. He stated that they decided to do things differently by taking a hands on approach to things, they also changed their trainer.
Over 70 horses took part in the day’s activities with some $7M in prizes and trophies available.
The day was incident free with the police coming in for special commendation for doing an excellent job. (Samuel Whyte)
