The Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC) in collaboration with the Horse Owners in Guyana will be staging the long awaited horserace meet on Sunday 27th July at the club’s track at Port Mourant, Corentyne Berbice. Over $7M is up for grabs in the seven race meet. So far some 60 horses have taken entry for the big day.
Apart from the feature D and lower event, which fetches a first prize of $1M and trophy over one mile, the Three year old West Indies and Guyana Event is now for maiden horses. The organisers have also reduced the entrance fee to only $10,000 for the horses entering to race in the J class race.
The full list of events reads: D and lower will be running for a first prize of $1M and trophy over one mile; the event for 3yrs old Guyana and West Indies Bred horses maiden for a winning take of $500,000 over 1500M; the E3 and lower event has a first prize of $500,000 and trophy over 1200M; the horses running in the G1 and lower class race will also have an opportunity to race away with a first prize of $400,000 and trophy over 1200M.
Two year old Guyana and West Indies Bred horses will be competing for a $300,000 first prize over 1000M; the ‘I’ and lower 1200M race will have a first prize of $250,000 and trophy up for the takings. Entries for the J and J1 event will fetch a winning prize of $200,000 and trophy over 1200M.
So far most of the top stables in the country are scheduled to participate.
Outstanding individual performers including top Jockey, trainer and stable will be presented with accolades compliments of the Trophy Stall Bourda Market and the organisers.
The races will be run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA).
