Guyanese Welterweight boxer, Nazar Sulaiman, formally of Port Mourant Corentyne, now residing in the United States of America, has chalked up an important victory in the fourth annual National United States Masters Amateur Boxing tournament at the world renowned Gleason’s Gym, Front Street Brooklyn, New York.
Fighting for the first time in the tournament which was contested on June 15 and 16 last, Sulaiman, training under the guidance of former local top boxer, Darius Forde, registered a second round technical knockout over Lonnie McCabe, a young pugilist from Albany USA, to win the national Welterweight title.
The Guyanese pugilist tipped the scales at 142lbs, three less than his opponent. Male and female boxers competed in several categories including juniors, seniors, and masters. The tournament was sanctioned by USA Boxing Metro and the action got underway at 19:30hrs.
