A strong Guyana Amazon Warriors team departed yesterday for Grenada where they will take on Antigua Hawksbills on July 11 in their opening fixture of the second Limacol Caribbean Premier League (LCPL) T20 tournament.
The Warriors who took the runner up spot in the inaugural tournament last year are being led by West Indies captain Denesh Ramdin and the team includes New Zealanders Martin Guptill and James Neesham, Pakistani Mohamed Hafeez, Lendl Simmons, Sunil Narine, Navin Stewart, Krishmar Santokie and Guyanese Christopher Barnwell, Veerasammy Permaul, Leon Johnson, Ronsford Beaton, Robin Bacchus, Steven Jacobs and Trevon Griffith.
Speaking just before the team departed the Grand Coastal hotel, Coach Roger Harper said he is confident the team can win the title.
Harper stated that he is satisfied with their preparation adding that the players are eager to go.
In an invited comment, newcomer James Neesham said he is looking forward to the tournament. “Guyana had a good run last season, we have a good team, one that can go all the way,” he added.
The Warriors will also take on Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel on July 17, St Lucia Zouks on July 19 and Jamaica Tallawahs on July 20 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
