The badly decomposed body of a 25-year-old Male Nurse was fished out of a trench at the back of ‘D’ Field Sophia around 07:30 hrs yesterday.
Dead is Terron Watts of Norton Street, Lodge. His body was discovered two days after he reportedly “ran away” from his mother’s Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home.
According to information received, a man, who had gone to the trench to take a bath, saw Watts’ decomposed body floating and raised an alarm. The body was then pulled from the trench by police and subsequently identified by a relative.
Coretta Eastman, the dead man’s aunt explained that her nephew, whose girlfriend is expecting their first child next month, was going through a rough time with his mother and his stepfather.
“He use to work at a hospital in Berbice and after his girlfriend get pregnant and her mother put her out, she come and live with his mother but he does smoke weed and his mother don’t like that, so she put him out,” Eastman revealed.
She added that her nephew lived with her for the past three months but he called his mother sometime last week and begged to go home back after promising to quit smoking.
She added that her sister went to her home and collected Watts and then took him to the mental clinic at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was kept for observation for two days.
“This boy had a nervous breakdown before and he was admitted at the mental institution in Berbice for sometime because he de trip one time when he was working there,” the aunt said.
According to Eastman, when her nephew was discharged from the GPHC’s observation ward, his mother took him home.
“Like when he wake up Friday morning he and his mother had some argument and Terron jump the fence and runaway.”
“I hear he de just take he medication when he runaway. Since Friday people searching for he but they didn’t find he,” the aunt said, adding that she is positive that her nephew committed suicide, given the fact that he tried to kill himself three years ago.
He has a lot of problems at home. Three years ago he come to my house with two bottles of tablets and he say that he will drink it and I had to talk to him and take it away.”
No marks of violence were immediately noticed on his body, however police will await the results of a post mortem examination to determine the cause of Watts’ death.
