A serving member of the Guyana Police Force was yesterday taken before the courts and formally charged for allegedly raping his eight-year-old daughter.
The police rank, who is stationed at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary, appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and was remanded to prison on a charge of rape of a child.
He is scheduled to return to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on July 2. Another charge is expected to be laid against him on account of another of his daughters.
According to reports, he repeatedly had sexual intercourse with his daughters in exchange for money.
The girls had reportedly become tired of being molested by him whenever they asked for money so they eventually reported the matter. The man was placed under close arrest on Tuesday while the girls were placed in protective custody.
Medical examinations have reportedly proven that the girls are sexually active.
