Chase Academy and East Ruimveldt registered convincing victories when the Georgetown zone of the Digicel nationwide Schools football championships continued yesterday.
Chase Academy, led by doubles from Andre Trotz and Shamar Barrow, handed Tutorial Secondary an 8-0 trashing, while Romell Legall netted a hat-trick as East Ruimveldt hammered Marian Academy 6-1.
Forward Trotz put Chase ahead at the Ministry of Education ground, 10 minutes into play when he lofted the ball into the six yard box that eluded the hands Tutorial goalkeeper Kelly Blue and went into the roof of the net. Chase dominated possession and continued to press forward, but sent a number of shots wide. Tutorial’s efforts to find an equalizer were thwarted by Chase back four and Daniel Ross doubled the lead in the 25 minute. Isaiah Reddy marshaled the midfield well; he passed to an unmarked Ross on the right side who scampered towards the goal before firing his shot into the back of the net.
Nine minutes later, David Briton made it 3-0 sending his long range shot over the outstretched hands of Blue. Blue failed to grasp Reddy’s shot form outside the 18 yard box in the 45th minute and Trotz made no mistake in tapping home, handing his team an 4-0 lead at half time.
Chase continued to attack after the interval and Reddy found the back of the net in the 56th minute before Shamar Barrow slotted home two minutes later. Barrow was again on target in the 61st minute, while an own goal in the 74th completed the scoring.
At Police Sports Club, Eve Leary, Troy Carrington gave East Ruimveldt the lead in the 11th minute and stretched the advantage in the 39th as his team enjoyed a 2-0 lead at the interval. Marian efforts to find the back of the net after the break were greeted with stern defence by the opposition.
East Ruimveldt’s trio of Carrington, Alton Benn and Romell Legall proved a handful for Marian back four and Benn made 3-0 two minutes into the second half. Marian pulled one back in the 77th minute when Damani Thomas fired home from outside the 18 yard box, but Legall stole the show thereafter. He first tapped home a cross from Carrington from the right side of the area in the 80th minute before scoring his second four minutes later and completed his hat-trick in the 86th minute.
