Frontline defeated Parika Defenders by 85 runs to win the final of the Over-35 category of the Wolf’s Furniture Store softball tournament played recently at Thirst Park.
Led by Ramo Malone’s 51, Frontline posted 198-7 in 15 overs after taking first strike. Roy Persaud supported with 38, Samuel Kingston 26 and Rudy Rodrigues 20. Mohamed Safie claimed 2-25.
Parika Defenders were limited to 113-9 in 15 overs in reply. Mahendra Balgobin stroked 46 and Ashmead Bacchus 21. Samad Hafeez and Malone captured two wickets each.
In other results, Parika Defenders defeated Superstar by 31 runs in the first round game. Parika Defenders piled up 186-3 in 15 overs. Diaram Persaud top scored with 73; Bacchus hit a robust 61.
Superstar responded with 155-8 in 15 overs. Jagdesh Persaud hit 52 as Sheik Ali and Ramesh Rambharose captured two wickets apiece.
Frontline got the better of Superstar by four wickets in the second round. Superstar managed 154-2 in 15 overs, taking first knock. S. Mohan led with 58 and Jagdesh Persaud made 46. Frontline replied with 155-6 in 12 overs. Singh was their leading batsman with 56 while Malone contributed 21.
Frontline pocketed a trophy and $40,000 while Parika Defenders took home a trophy and $20,000.
