The Guyana Olympic Association in collaboration with the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) successfully brought off its Triathlon Saturday in observance of International Olympic Day.
The Team Event was won by the combination of Omar Adams (swimmer), Stephano Husbands (cyclist) and Seon Burry (runner) ahead of Soroya Simmons, Christopher Holder and David Christian.
Third place went to Britany van Lange, Jamaal John and Alika Morgan.
The top Individual Female was Denise Jeffrey who placed 5th overall whipping four male entrants in the process.
Emerging as the leading Individual male was Noel Culpeper ahead of Silas Brummell who did well to come back after being the last athlete out of the pool. Danny Persaud had to settle for third.
Other individual entrants in order of how they finished were Joseph Seguina, Hannibal Gaskin who was first out of the pool but fell behind a bit while cycling then fell at the transition point to running, Jamaal Skeete, Niall Roberts and Joseph DeNobrega.
While the Team Sprint Triathlon saw one person doing each leg (Swimming, Cycling, Athletics), the Individual Triathlon meant that that persons had to do the entire event.
Swimming saw the competitors doing a 750m swim at the National Aquatic Centre (NAC), Liliendaal; Cycling which covered 20 kilometers was done from the NAC ~east along the Embankment Road to University of Guyana Road ~ North on UG Road to East Coast Highway ~ West on EC Highway into Carifesta Avenue to Parade Street ~ South on Parade Street to Barrack Street ~ East on Barrack Street to Camp Street ~ North on Camp Street to Thomas Road ~ East on Thomas Road into the National Park and once around the National Park circuit.
The Transition Zone was the National Park Circuit, South/West at the Albert Street entrance.
Athletics was a 5K run, three times around the National Park circuit. Trophies were awarded to the 1st to 3rd placed teams and individuals along with a $30,000 cash reward to the first place team. The top Individual male and female winners pocketed $15,000 each.
