The family of Essequibo accident victim, 25-year-old Munera Khan, is annoyed at the treatment meted
Munera Khan
out to the injured young woman.
Relatives have disclosed that Khan, who was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, on Wednesday, was refused admittance as a patient at the City Hospital despite being referred from the Suddie Public Hospital.
Relatives said that they were told by nurses at the Georgetown Public Hospital that they were unable to keep her since the Hospital did not have beds. On Friday when Khan re-visited the Hospital with the aid of a relative she was again told that she could not be admitted, again, because of the absence of beds. She was then asked to return on Sunday for surgery.
The relatives are finding difficulty accepting what the Nurses have told Khan and are now questioning the credibility of the staff since Khan’s condition is said to be still grave.
“The young woman is in severe pain and they telling her they can’t accept her at the hospital. What nonsense is this?” a relative queried.
Khan has sustained a dislocated shoulder and a broken collarbone.
Meanwhile, her husband Dhanny Latchman, who was also involved in the accident on Father’s Day, at Colombia, Essequibo Coast, remains a patient at the Suddie Public Hospital. He has lost a spleen due to the accident and is said to be also crying out for pain. He was up to Thursday urinating blood and his breathing was said to be laboured.
Doctors have told his relatives that upon his release, he would be unable to father children and lift heavy things.
The driver of the Black PSS 4765 has since been charged for dangerous driving. He appeared before magistrate Sunil Scarce, on Friday at the Suddie Magistrate Court. He has been placed on $60.000 bail.
